Events
The Events section serves as the central hub for all Umurava HUB activities. It organizes program engagements into clear categories to help participants easily access schedules, joining instructions, resources, and recordings. These events are designed to support learning, collaboration, and engagement throughout the hackathon journey. The main categories include workshops for structured learning, weekly Kahoots for reinforcement and engagement, and the In-Person Hackathon Day as the core on-ground milestone.
In-Person Hackathon
The In-Person Hackathon is a one-day, on-site event focused on collaboration, rapid problem-solving, and hands-on building. Teams will work together to explore real-world problems, design practical solutions, and develop early prototypes or well-defined concepts. The day will includes structured activities such as challenge briefings, team formation, prototyping sprints, mentor check-ins, and pitch practice.
To be held at Westerwelle Startup Haus Kigali, the hackathon will emphasize learning, momentum, and tangible progress rather than perfection. By the end of the day, each team will be expected to have documented outputs they can refine and continue developing in subsequent stages of the broader hackathon.
Kahoots
Kahoots are weekly, live quiz sessions designed to reinforce learning from the week’s workshops in a fun and low-pressure environment. All questions are directly based on the workshop content, making Kahoots an effective review tool rather than a test. Participation is open to all hackathon participants, with eligibility for prizes requiring attendance during the live session.
Each session awards cash prizes to the top three performers and features winners on a weekly leaderboard, creating friendly competition and recognition. Recordings are shared for learning purposes, but only live participants qualify for prizes. Kahoots play a key role in maintaining engagement, reinforcing knowledge, and rewarding consistent participation throughout the program.
