CupTrace

Problem

Smallholder coffee farmers, cooperatives, and consumers lack a simple and trustworthy way to verify the true origin and journey of coffee.
Once coffee leaves the farm, information about who produced it, where it came from, and how it was processed is often lost or altered.
Farmers struggle to prove authenticity and receive fair prices for their coffee.
Buyers face challenges verifying sourcing and quality claims.
Consumers cannot confidently trust origin, sustainability, or ethical labels on coffee products.

This lack of transparent traceability reduces trust and value across the entire coffee supply chain.

MVP

Scope

A digital, farmer-centered traceability and governance platform designed to transform Rwanda’s coffee and tea value chains.

Cardano Integration

Cardano is used as a trust and verification layer in CupTrace to ensure that coffee traceability data cannot be altered after it is recorded. When a coffee batch is created, a unique digital record is generated and anchored on the Cardano blockchain, providing an immutable proof of origin and batch identity.

Each batch is linked to a QR code that allows buyers and consumers to view verified traceability information. By using Cardano, CupTrace ensures transparency, data integrity, and long-term trust across the coffee supply chain without relying on a single central authority.
